A New Year | Brisbane Wedding Photographer

A New Year

This is what the Lord says— he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.    Isaiah 43:16, 18-19 NIV

I love the new year.  With the ticking over of that clock we are suddenly free to step into all things…well…new.  Adventures, risks, clean slates, disciplines – grand declarations that a new season has/should/will arrive.

A New Year

But a new season can only arrive when an old one is finished.  For some, 2014 was difficult.  For others, the last ten years was difficult!  To be honest, I am one who fits into that category.  Don’t get me wrong – I’ve experienced inordinate blessing and happiness during that time too but life has been dotted with a fair amount of devastation. I can too often find myself looking back and wishing certain things hadn’t happened, imagining what life would be like, and even grumbling about the people who played a part in my deviation from what was sure to be a ‘perfect’ life.

The thing is, I believe that God has a new plan for me.  At the very moment of my loss it was not those people or those circumstances that changed the course of my life, it was Jesus.  At the very moment of my world being thrown off its axis, He stepped in and re-calibrated the plan…for the better.

You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.    Genesis 50:20 (NIV)

With that in mind, every time that we wish our life were something else, somewhere else – remembering, regretting – we are actually despising the new plan.  The new, perfect, God-breathed plan that is laid out for us if only we would stop looking back.

So if 2014 was a tough one for you, this is your invitation to join me in stepping into the new thing.  No ‘what if’s’, no looking back. No despising the new, unfamiliar, couldn’t have imagined my life would look like this, but instead leaning in and embracing the hope that is laid out before us.

Here’s to trust.  Here’s to faith.  Here’s to a new season.

From my new plan to yours – here’s to 2015!

Families for Freedom | Brisbane Family Portraits

Human trafficking.

It’s a cause that I cannot shake.

About 5 years ago my eyes were opened to the atrocities associated with this global issue at Colour Conference and it’s been on my heart ever since.  There was a moment in last year’s conference where we received a gift of a tin labeled ‘the 500 project’.  The 10000 or so women in the room were challenged to each raise $500 over the coming year and donate it.  Personally, I find it easy to feel helpless in fighting such a massive problem as human trafficking.  But break it down to me putting up my hand and using the skills that I’ve got to raise just $500 – easy.  And can you imagine the impact of 10000 women putting up their hands and saying ‘no’ on behalf of their sisters around the world who can’t?  I’m excited to see what happens.

SO HAVING SAID THAT!…

My dear friend Julie and I are teaming up to play our part and fill our tins!

On the afternoon of February 22nd I’ll be offering 20 minute mini-sessions for families.  You will receive the best 10-20 hi-res digital images from your shoot and ALL proceeds will be donated to The 500 Project.  The sessions will be held on the northside of Brisbane at Old Petrie Town.  Bookings are essential and LIMITED spaces are available.

For more information or to book, please email Julie at J.Missenden@gmail.com

Together we can make a difference!

Behind The Scenes | The Piano on the Beach | Brisbane Wedding Portrait

‘How on earth did you get a piano on the beach?!’

The phrase that I have heard over and over again over the past few weeks!  And the answer?….

Pure GIRL POWER!

Sam and my brother, Dean, gutted the piano in the weeks leading up to the shoot so it would at least be manageable to carry.  I had an elaborate plan that involved plywood and a little trolley but in the end we decided it would be easier for four of us to just to carry it onto the beach.  We had planned the shoot so that it would take place at high tide so we didn’t have to carry it as far. Hmmm.  Turned out we got it wrong and we hit the beach about an hour before LOW tide (we’d make terrible fishermen!).  That meant, we edged the piano further and further down the beach, chasing the water…so much so that we had to carry the WET, sand-filled piano about twice the distance back UP the beach!  Cardio & weights session for the week – tick!

I have to give some BIG thank you’s to all the people who helped make this shoot become a reality…

Steve, Chris & Jamie – For ferrying the piano down from the coast.

Les & Jude – For letting us store and PULL APART the piano in your garage for WEEKS! You’re the best!

Dean (My brother – who is totally single – just doing my part!) – For sparkling that piano to pieces!

Les (again) – For helping us tie that sucker onto the ute and for not de-friending me after I accidentally put said ute into reverse and nearly ran you over.  Whoops.

Nanna & Poppa – For letting us (and the piano) crash at your house.

Dad – For lending me the ute xo.

Debbie & Sharolyn – For carrying a piano.  In SAND.  Enough said!

Belinda from The Lily Bean Florist – For arranging flowers IN THE DARK and still making them look amazing!

And Sam – you’re gorgeous xo

A Sweet Heart | Piano on the Beach |Brisbane Portrait Photographer

My beautiful friend Sam has wanted a portrait shoot for quite a long time and we had been waiting for the perfect moment.  Knowing Sam is an accomplished pianist, I knew as soon as this idea popped into my head that it was just for her.  And watching it come to fruition was a dream!

The morning of the shoot was absolutely God-breathed  – so much so that we even had a pod of dolphins dancing in front of us at one stage – breathtaking.

Sam and I were chatting after the shoot and laughing at the reactions our friends and family had when we told them what we were going to do.  Eyes rolling, disbelieving sniggers, the ‘oh, isn’t that interesting’ statements and the puzzling enquiries as to why a single person would want a photo shoot of themselves.  Sam’s response spoke volumes -‘Anna, some people just don’t understand beauty for beauty’s sake’.

I hope you as you look through this that you’ll be able to bask in the beauty and let it speak to your soul for just a minute or two.

xo

{Soon to come – a Behind The Scenes post – because I know you’re dying to know how we got a piano on the beach!  AND there are many thanks to be given to the army of friends who helped make this happen xo }
